Hey Mason 👋

Your Home Setup Checklist

A few quick things to walk around and check. Go in order, take your time, and text me anytime — I can watch it happen live from my end. — Trevor

💚 You can't break anything here. Tapping a box just saves your spot. Open the Home Assistant app on your phone (the icon is a little house 🏠) and keep it handy.

The laundry water alarm

Your laundry leak sensor is telling me it's wet right now. Might be a real little leak, or the sensor might just be sitting somewhere damp. Let's check before anything else.

  1. Go to the laundry room. Look behind and under the washer for any water. Snap a photo of what you see (even if it's dry).
  2. Find the small white leak sensor on the floor (it has two little metal feet on the bottom).
  3. Dry the metal feet with a towel and watch the app — it should switch from Wet → Dry.
If it stays "Wet" even when it's totally dry, text me — the sensor needs a swap.
Why does this matter?

Water near the washer can quietly cause damage. I already fixed the alert so this sensor will buzz your phone the moment it gets wet from now on — it wasn't doing that before.

Test the smoke & CO alarms

You have four smoke/carbon‑monoxide alarms: Garage, Casita, Vestibule (front entry), and Janie's room. Let's make sure each one can reach your phone.

For each alarm: press & hold the TEST button until it sounds, then watch for a buzz on your phone.

If any one doesn't buzz your phone, text me which one and we'll reconnect it. (The Vestibule one is the one I'd most like confirmed.)
Why does this matter?

These are life‑safety alarms — the whole point is that they reach your phone if you're not home. I already stopped Janie's alarm from crying wolf every few hours, and set all four to warn you when their batteries get low.

Press the little 4‑button remote

There's a small white 4‑button remote (meant to control the bedroom AC). I need to "see" each button so I can program them.

  1. Text me "ready" first so I'm watching.
  2. Press each button slowly, one at a time (wait ~2 seconds between): top‑left, top‑right, bottom‑left, bottom‑right.
  3. Then double‑press each, and press‑and‑hold each.
  4. I'll text "got them." Tell me what you'd like each button to do (AC on / off / warmer / cooler).

Re‑connect 2 light switches

Two switches show up in the app but won't turn on/off. They joined "locked," so we'll remove and re‑add them. I drive the app — you just tap the switch when I say.

The two are: Nursery Closet Light (inside the nursery closet) and Backyard High Sconce (the tall outdoor wall light in back).

  1. I start "Remove device" → you tap the switch the way I tell you.
  2. I start "Add device" (I'll pick the no‑lock option) → you tap it again.
  3. I flip it from the app → you confirm the light goes on/off. 🎉

The dead nursery outlet

The Nursery West Outlet (a smart outlet) stopped responding.

  1. Unplug whatever's on it.
  2. Flip its breaker off ~10 seconds, then back on.
  3. Text me — I'll check it. If it's still dead I'll just remove it so it's not in the way.

Living‑room camera ("Floater")

The little plug‑in living‑room camera is offline. It runs on USB power + Wi‑Fi — there's no cable to check.

Just make sure it's plugged in and its light is on. If it got moved or unplugged, plug it back and text me to reconnect it.

Two quick battery checks

No CR2450 battery on hand? Add it to the shopping list and text me — that's fine.

Plug in the "booster" plugs

Your sensors in the basement/crawlspace keep dropping because there's nothing to relay their signal. I'll send you 1–2 small smart plugs that quietly fix this.

Plug them into outlets between the house hub and the basement (one near the crawlspace is ideal). Nothing to set up — just plug in and leave them.

You're not on the hook for these
